Dine-In Local: Hoboken BYOB Options

Who doesn’t love a good BYOB spot? Bringing your own bottle from home ensures you won’t opt for those fireball shots at five bucks a pop. Here are some great options for BYOB restaurants in Hoboken:

Chinese:

  • Precious: Aside from being my go-to for garlic shrimp, Precious has extensive vegetarian options on their menu as well. 128 Washington Street

  • Yeung II: If you want the most bang for your buck without sacrificing quality, Yeung II is a great option. Their menu features a fusion of Chinese and Japanese cuisine, as well as a decent sushi menu. 1120 Washington Street. Visit Yeung II here.

Cuban:

  • Zafra Kitchen: Good cilantro sauce and croquetas go a long way, maybe that’s what this place never seems to be dead (get there early). Oh, and they’ll make sangria for you if you bring wine! 301 Willow Ave. Visit Zafra Kitchen here.

  • La Isla: Almost everyone can agree that the entrees at La Isla can easily feed two people. Somewhere between scarfing down beef empanadas and guava, you’ll be hooked. 104 Washington Ave. Visit La Isla here.

Indian:

  • Cafe Matt & Meera: I could never stand quinoa, then I had it on a mushroom burger at Matt & Meera — instant favorite. They don’t drown their food in sauces, and frankly they don’t need to. 618 Washington Street. Visit Matt & Meera here.

  • Bombay West: If you’re craving Indian food, you won’t be disappointed in this place, which is known for their paneer and lamb. You won’t get slighted here — be prepared to leave with plenty of leftovers. 832 Washington Street. Visit Bombay West here.

Italian:

  • Napoli’s Brick Oven Pizza: The thing I love about this place is that owner Frank Volpe always uses fresh ingredients. Napoli’s offers gluten-free pizza and pasta, if you’re into that sort of thing, and they make a killer margherita pizza. 1118 Washington Street. Visit Napoli's here.

  • San Giuseppe Coal Fired Pizza & Cucina: It’s hard to say no to coal-fired wings and a Nutella pie. Aside from having great food, you can actually find parking here. 1320 Adams Street. Visit San Giuseppe here.

  • Trattoria Saporito: The linguini and seafood here are choice, and their calamari makes a great appetizer. Some of the best Italian entrees in town can be found here. 328 Washington Street. Visit Trattoria Saporito here.

  • Margherita’s Pizza & Cafe: The bruschetta here has gotten a big name, and because it’s a cafe you can also get yourself a decent espresso or cappuccino. 740 Washington Street. Visit Margherita's here.

Japanese:

  • Ayame Hibachi & Sushi: When I think of getting my spicy tuna fix in Hoboken, I think Ayame. Your Hoboken BYOB tour is never complete without a hibachi dinner, but fair warning: these guys love sake…a lot. 526 Washington Street. Visit Ayame here.

  • Illuzion: Any restaurant that names their special rolls after an Ernest Hemingway title has my vote. Also, if you’re into rock shrimp, you’ll want to check out Illuzions. 337 Washington Street. Visit Illuzion here.

  • Robongi: Great option for sushi, and their teriyaki entrees are pretty darn good, too. Oh, and don’t forget green tea ice cream for dessert! 520 Washington Street. Visit Robongi here.

Mexican:

  • Charritos (Downtown): I can never go longer than a month without stopping here for carne asada and guacamole. Like Zafra, they will also make sangria if you bring wine. 121 Washington Street.

  • Charritos (Uptown): Just like it’s downtown sister, but with more legroom. People are always buzzing about which location is better, personally, I can’t wait to go back to either. 1024 Washington Street. Visit Charritos here.

  • Sabores: Good pico de gallo is the backbone of a lot of good Mexican dishes in my opinion. One of the few places that reminds me of Mexican food in southern California. 518 Washington Street. Visit Sabores here.

Middle Eastern:

  • Ali Baba: Ali Baba isn’t your average falafel and halal lamb joint, it’s got pizazz, and more importantly better food. Once you have their hummus, you may never be able to opt for store-bought again. 912 Washington Street

Thai:

  • T Thai: Spicy. That’s the first thing that comes to mind when I think of T Thai. If you’d like good Thai and still want to bring that wine you haven’t opened, T Thai is an awesome choice. 102 Hudson Street. Visit T Thai here.
