Art Exhibit: 313 Gallery’s “Wastelands” Opening Reception

Wasteland Exhibit

Wastelands, an art exhibit in Jersey City’s 313 Gallery kicks off this Saturday, April 12. The exhibit is curated by Allison Hall and features artists from both Chicago and Jersey City who through Wastelands, “combine memories of a pre-digital past with visions of an unfamiliar future, representing the struggle inherent in the redefinition of values and meaning in a new era.”

This should be a fascinating exhibit. At this point we are used to the perpetual state of flux the internet/digital age leaves us in. Change is good but the more rapidly we change, the harder it becomes for previous generations to catch up. Progress used to be slow and deliberate, something witnessed and awed at, but we are now in a constant state of revision, making things that are much more temporary and almost bereft of significance. I’m looking forward to seeing how the artists portray the “wastelands” of our not-so-distant pasts, what we left behind without realizing.

313 Gallery is at 313 Third St., Jersey City. The opening reception begins at 5 p.m., ending at 9 p.m. The exhibit will run until May 18.
