Holiday Red Carpet Fashion Show

This Sunday, December 14, at 2 p.m., head over to Black Rail Coffee for M. Avery Designs’ Holiday Red Carpet Fashion Show. The show will feature students, 6 to 13 years of age, from M. Avery’s sewing classes. The kids, spanning all skill levels, will be modeling their personally sewn fashion projects such as stuffed animals, skirts, hats, purses, and even dresses and jackets.

Owner Megan Avery started the business by selling bags, and then moved on to holding sewing classes for both children and adults. She also does bachelorette parties and children’s birthdays. The Holiday Red Carpet Fashion Show has become a tradition, and this year’s production should be the biggest so far given that it’s a collaborative with other businesses like Just 4 Kids Salon, which will be styling models’ hair, and the Artist Makeup Academy, which will be applying makeup. Cholita Dessert Bar will be providing supplying the treats. It’s a great example of businesses working together to bolster and support one another, as well as providing children the opportunity to express themselves creatively.

The Holiday Red Carpet Fashion definitely showcases some of the many businesses of the Monroe Center, just a stone’s throw from Black Rail Coffee, which is right by the 9th and Congress Light Rail Station. “Definitely one thing that I want to focus on is helping out the community,” said James Jung, the co-owner of Black Rail Coffee. “Monroe Center is kind of a hub, but people can get lost in there a little bit. They got all this talent in this one building, it would be great for everyone to join together and do something.”

If you like what you see at the fashion show, you can sign yourself or your child up for one of M. Avery’s regularly scheduled classes, or for the M. Avery Designs’ Winter Break Sewing Camp, for half or full day classes from December 29 to January 2. Also stay tuned for more events at Black Rail Coffee, such as their upcoming art show in collaboration with hob’art, which will take place in January.
