How To Dress For Spring – Style Strategies
It’s that time of year where you loathe getting dressed. Partly because this weather is trés terrible {but that’s winter for you} and partly because you’ve done your best with what you’ve been allotted for cold weather gear yet everything just feels so boring now. This makes mid-February the perfect time to start strategizing how to dress for spring. How do you strategize for your wardrobe? Think long-er term for every purchase. Even if the sunny days and outdoor seating seem so far away, from a wardrobe perspective they will be here faster than your waitress can come back with that second round of sangria; so you want to be ready!

hopping in Hoboken has really evolved. While yes, there are a few famous chain stores lining the southern part of Washington Street, there are also some steadfast boutiques like Townhouse and some newbies like Alba and Aaraa, that give us plenty of stylish options when those unexpected plans pop up. That’s what I did here in my style shoot with the beautiful Ashley. I created two {and a half?} looks with the idea that they could work for a variety of situations and not be a one-and-done impulse buy, which seems to happen more often than not. Here are three small, but mighty tips that will help you stay strong in the moment of temptation; when you lay your eyes on something sequined {or is that only something I suffer from?}, and focus on the items that will make you feel like you always have something to wear.
Start out neutral when you’re on a mission to transition– into the next season, working with neutrals makes it easy. This trench is not only an amazing color: this gray can work on so many levels! It is also a super sleek silhouette that will flatter many body types and make countless outfits will look more polished by finishing with it. OH! And you can unbutton the top portion and turn it into a long vest– can I get an Amen?! A classic style with a legit twist, that’s a piece worth fighting for.
Pile it on by taking a dare to layer. When I style client, this is the number one thing everyone wants to master and it is really very simple if you approach it with open eyes and confidence. If you have a vest, this is what it is made for! Layering a fur vest under a heavier coat or over a leather jacket is a great place to start. Just keep in mind your proportion and the weight of your vest. An olive utility vest is a second favorite of mine for this kind of styling. So when out shopping keep in mind a piece’s layer-ability factor.
Accessories. Accessories. Accessories are little bits of sparkle and shine that allow a peek into your personality! With the crazy hours we all pull, it is sometimes hard to add that extra five minutes to the getting ready routine and make some magic in the excess department. But I promise you, it’s worth it! When shopping for accessories, think of what you already own. Try to find a few pieces that compliment what you have, making for a great collection to mix and match. Then every once in a while, go for that statement piece that will be sure to be noticed. Check out the fringe cuff Ash is rocking.
