Macy’s Believe Campaign: Jersey City School Contributes To The Cause

by Lauren Scrudato

Students of Frank R. Conwell School PS #3 in Jersey City are embracing the holiday spirit by helping fellow children across the country through the Macy's Believe Campaign.

Frank R. Conwell School PS #3’s Conwell Kidz Drama Program was selected out of hundreds of schools for the Macy’s Yes Virginia, the Musical campaign. The school was given a grant to help build their performance of the popular musical. This achievement inspired the students to pay it forward by taking part in Macy’s Believe Campaign, which sets up red boxes in Macy’s stores around the country to collect letters to Santa Clause. Every letter deposited results in a $1.00 donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

In addition to creating their own box at the school, PS #3 has reached out to local businesses with the goal of receiving 10,000 letters by the end of the month.

According to Felicia Palmer, a parent and organizer of the students’ musical, letters have been pouring in from local residents, as well as from across the state. “We wanted to make sure our kids understand the value of giving back,” said Palmer. She also mentioned how Make-A-Wish was a great cause to partner with because students witnessed the foundation’s good deeds first-hand, as a female student received her wish from them.

To promote the letter-writing fundraiser, the Conwell Kidz Drama Program will present a sneak-preview performance of Yes, Virginia The Musical at the Macy's store at the Newport Mall in Jersey City on Friday, December 6th at 1 p.m. In honor of National Believe Day, which coincides with the date of the sneak peak performance, Macy’s will double their donation to $2, so be sure to have your letter handy when attending.
The full-scale performance of The Conwell Kidz Drama Program’s production will run December 18th and 19th at the Frank R. Conwell PS #3 theatre, located at 111 Bright Street in Jersey City.
