April Events At WORD Bookstore

by Lauren Scrudato

April is all about poetry and spring cleaning at WORD Bookstore. Check out what Jersey City’s bookworm haven is offering over the next four weeks:

Rewriting Hyde with Daniel Levine, April 3 at 7:30 p.m.

Daniel Levine, author of Hyde, the twist on Robert Louis Stephenson’s classic, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde will read excerpts from his novel that portrays the villain’s point of view.

Glorkian Warriors and James Kochalka, April 6 at 11 a.m.

James Kochalka, author and illustrator of The Glorkian Warrior Delivers a Pizza, will present his kid-friendly graphic novel about the warrior and his talking backpack setting out on a journey to deliver a clam and peanut butter pizza. He will also conduct a drawing workshop recommended for children ages 5 to 9.

JC Poetry Series: National Poetry Month, April 10 at 7:30 p.m.

April is National Poetry Month, so to celebrate WORD has invited well-known poets Peter O’Leary and Brian Teare to present their work and sign books as part of its continuous poetry series.

Spring Cleaning with the Literacy Exchange, April 17 at 7:30 p.m.

As we all (im)patiently wait for spring’s arrival, the thought of spring cleaning can be a daunting one. The Literacy Exchange will help you get organized with discussion topics and ideas to make decluttering and starting fresh both mentally and physically an easier process.

Growing Good Readers with Jamie Zibulsky, April 24 at 7:30 p.m.

Encouraging your children to read for fun instead of looking at it as a chore can be a struggle for parents. But Jamie Zubulsky will give a presentation designed to offer parents and teachers ideas on how to keep your children engaged using her how-to guide, Book Smart.

WORD Bookstore has something happening nearly every day so check out their full list of events here.
