Halloween Candy Buyback at Blooming Smiles

by Abby Montanez

Aside from the costumes, Halloween is all about trick-or-treating and collecting as much candy as physically possible. But let’s be honest, kids and teens often come home with much more sweets than they can handle. Fortunately, families can put all their extra goodies to good use by bringing them to either Lucas Dental or Blooming Smiles Pediatric Dentistry in Hoboken as part of the Halloween Candy Buyback program.

Started in 2005, the Halloween Candy Buyback program was created with the goal of getting candy “off the streets.” For every one pound of candy brought into a participating dentist’s office, the child receives $1 and the treats typically get sent to troops overseas, local homeless shelters, orphanages or food banks.

In the spirit of giving, Lucas Dental and Blooming Smiles will be giving $5 to every child per five pounds of candy that is brought in as part of the Halloween Candy Buyback program, along with a free toothbrush. The candy will then go to troops currently serving overseas.

It’s a sweet way of donating to those in need.
