NJ Transit is finally tackling the issue of cloudy windows that have frustrated travelers for too long—including me. Your complaints haven’t gone unheard, and the transit authority is ready to make things right!
NJ Transit states that the cloudy windows result from long-term UV light exposure on the single-pane polycarbonate windows used throughout its trains. While these windows are tough and lightweight, they’ve taken a beating from the sun, scratches, and temperature changes, leaving you with obstructed views of beautiful landscapes. Many riders have expressed disappointment, especially when traveling through scenic areas, and NJ Transit has recognized the need for improvement.
The great news is that NJ Transit is set to replace the first 400 cloudy windows across its trains! Installation will begin in the coming months as new windows arrive and railcars undergo scheduled inspections.
Additionally, NJ Transit’s maintenance teams will conduct a thorough assessment of all windows to identify those that need immediate replacement. The new windows promise high optical clarity, excellent UV resistance, and increased durability against scratches and vandalism.
While this doesn’t solve NJ Transit’s ongoing issues with delays, cancellations, and schedule inconsistencies, it’s at least a step in the right direction. Clearer windows won’t fix every problem, but it’s a start toward improving the overall commuting experience.
