NJ drivers should be weary of I-80 this week. A sinkhole opened on Interstate 80 eastbound in Wharton, New Jersey, Thursday morning, forcing the closure of the highway near Exit 34.
The incident occurred around 7:45 a.m., with the sinkhole impacting the right shoulder and encroaching on the travel lane.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is working to assess the situation and develop a repair plan.
Motorists are advised to expect significant delays and consider alternate routes. A detour is in place, directing traffic to Route 15 Southbound. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
