Jersey City’s Halloween Family Bash returns October 31 with a full afternoon and evening of costumes, games, entertainment, and plenty of reasons to explore downtown.

Looking for a fun way to celebrate Halloween with the whole family? Downtown Jersey City is turning up the spooky spirit with its annual Halloween Family Bash, a free community celebration packed with festive activities, sweet treats, and entertainment for all ages.

On Saturday, October 31, the Newark Avenue Pedestrian Mall and Grove Street area will transform into a Halloween playground from noon until 8 p.m. Hosted by the Historic Downtown Special Improvement District (HDSID), the event brings together families, neighbors, local businesses, and visitors for a day of Halloween fun right in the heart of Jersey City.

It all comes after Jersey City was just named the No. 3 Halloween city in America.

Halloween Fun for the Whole Family

Whether your little ones are dressed as superheroes, princesses, ghosts, or their favorite movie characters, there’s plenty to keep them entertained.

Families can enjoy a variety of activities, including a corn maze, face painting, games, a bounce house, rides, pumpkins, and, of course, plenty of Halloween candy. Live music and entertainment will add to the festive atmosphere throughout the celebration.

The best part? Admission is completely free, making this an affordable way for families to enjoy Halloween together. While many activities are included, rides require separate tickets, which can be purchased with cash at the HDSID tent.

A Little Halloween Fun for the Grown-Ups, Too

Halloween isn’t just for kids! Adults ages 21 and older can visit the Terror Tavern, hosted by Grace O’Malley’s Whiskey Chapel, for a grown-up addition to the festivities.

With entertainment, festive costumes, and the lively atmosphere of downtown Jersey City, there’s something for everyone to enjoy, whether you’re bringing the kids for an afternoon of trick-or-treating or making an evening of it with friends.

Make a Day of It and Support Local!

One of the best parts about community events like the Halloween Family Bash is how they bring people directly into downtown, surrounded by local businesses.

While you’re enjoying the festivities, take some time to explore the independent shops, restaurants, cafés, and other small businesses that make downtown Jersey City such a vibrant destination.

Grab lunch at a neighborhood restaurant, stop into a local boutique, enjoy a coffee or sweet treat, or discover a business you’ve never visited before. The event will also feature local vendors, giving visitors another opportunity to shop small.

Community celebrations like this are about more than a day of entertainment. They’re an opportunity to discover what makes a downtown special, connect with neighbors, and support the businesses that contribute to the character of our New Jersey communities.
