We know, winter isn’t the most ideal time of year for a road trip – especially if you’re heading north. But as the old saying goes: “When there’s a will, there’s a way. Or in this care, when you bring the right vehicle, the elements are no longer an obstacle. At The Digest, we love our scenery, so we headed up north to Lake Placid, NY for a long weekend in January behind the wheel of the new 2019 Chevy Silverado.
Since selling its first pickup just a year ago, Chevy has sold more than 85 million trucks. The brand’s success has resulted in an all-new design for the 2019 Chevy Silverado, improving upon nearly every aspect of its predecessor. As we made our way to High Peaks Resort in Lake Placid, we got a firsthand experience of everything this year’s model has to offer.
Thanks to some improved aerodynamics (usually an afterthought for trucks) the 2019 Chevy Silverado has reduced wind drag – namely due to its front grille air curtains which push air around the wheel wells. This resulted in a smooth ride, one without the typical drag noise that comes to mind when behind the wheel of a truck.
Though we didn’t get use it for much, the 2019 Chevy Silverado’s all-new Durabed boasts best-in-class cargo volume and has been improvised from the 2018 model. Its cargo size isn’t just a little bigger, but nearly 20 percent greater than other makes and models of its kind. With 12 fixed tie-downs, 9 movable tie points and a higher-strength steel floor, this year’s Silverado is built for maximum pressure.
Driving along I-87 was as picturesque as always, regardless of the season, but it was the 2019 Chevy Silverado’s all new interior that caught our eye on during our journey north. For one, it was quite roomy, with an impressive 44.5 inches of front legroom, and almost the same in back. With storage space in two 10-liter bins and 24-liter compartment beneath the second row seat, there was more than enough room for us and all of our gear.
Improved Tech & Fuel Management
Another great feature is GM’s “Heads Up” display, the first of its kind in a full-size pickup model. Able to project information onto the windshield, the 3×7 display ensures you’ll keep your eyes on the road. Though we didn’t have anything to tow, the 2019 Chevy Silverado also features “Surround Vision” which uses different camera angles to create a bird’s-eye view of the of the area as you back up your trailer, etc. The additional cameras were nice, but perhaps our favorite tech feature had to be the 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot (which includes one-month/3GB data trail when you purchase).
Most of the 4WD 2019 Chevy Silverado models are outfitted with, as they put it, “updated versions of Chevrolet’s proven 5.3L and 6.2L engines, an all-new, advanced 2.7L Turbo engine, proven 4.3L V-6 and 5.3L V-8 engine.” What this means for the driver, is full-size truck capacity and top performance. The vehicle’s dynamic fuel system alternates from eight and four-cylinders which maximizes efficiency in all conditions regardless of how fast you like to drive.
High Peaks Resort – Lake Placid
During our trip, we had the pleasure of visiting one of Lake Placid’s top hotel resorts, High Peaks Resort. Situated in a beautiful lakeside setting, the contemporary Adirondack-style resort is the epitome of a relaxing Lake Placid getaway. With the region’s picturesque landscape right outside our window and all of the resort’s amenities, it was the perfect place to top off our road trip.
The resort is built on a core principle of three unique experiences at one location. From its hallmark property on Main Street with an award-winning spa and classic American pub fare, Lake House filled with the comforts of an ideal lakeside cabin fireplace and Waterfront Collection overlooking Mirror Lake, the type of stay you have at High Peak is entirely up to you. All in all (no matter the season) there’s an itinerary for everyone – and did we mention they’re pet friendly!
