Brooklyn Nets Sign Markieff Morris In One-Year Deal to Help Fill Out Their Roster

by Staff

The Brooklyn Nets, keen to vanquish the memory of an infinitely forgettable season (from a playing perspective anyway), have moved to bring in experienced NBA campaigner Markieff Morris on a short-term deal to give Steve Nash more depth for 2022-23.

Last season the Nets were considered the big favorites to win the NBA title, but issues off the court and poor displays on it meant they limped out in the first round of the playoffs to the Boston Celtics, and much of the off-season has centered around the futures of two big stars.

Both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving looked likely to leave the Barclays Center, and if they were to do so, you’d imagine the odds would impact their NBA title odds. If you are keen on signing up with a solid sportsbook in order to back the Nets, then this Draftkings NY review offers you key relevant info on what appears to be a very strong option to consider.

Fortunately for coach Nash and general manager Sean Marks, Durant has agreed to stick around, but the situation with regards to Irving is less concrete at present; but at least the Nets are looking to beef up their roster.

33-year-old forward Morris, who won an NBA title with the Lakers in 2020, has been moving around with alarming regularity in recent seasons. After three seasons at the Washington Wizards, which came after a five-year spell at the Phoenix Suns, he’s rocked up at the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Detroit Pistons, the Lakers, and then the Miami Heat.

Last season came to a crashing halt after an altercation with Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic, which left Morris with a $50k fine and whiplash in November 2021 and he was only clear to take to the court again in March and only managed to feature in 17 games in the regular season and a single playoff game.

Morris is a solid addition to Nash’s side, and the fact that he’s taken part in 50 playoff games is a sign of a player with top-level experience, and that will help the Nets in the coming season, where the team’s fans will hope that they can finally deliver on their obvious collective abilities and potential.

Meanwhile, the attention surrounding Durant has moved to a less problematic area after the 12-time NBA All-Star pick responded to his latest ratings in the EA Sports NBA video game series, 2K23, where the 33-year-old got a 96 score.

Though clearly, 96 is a damn good score, it’s important to note that Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo scored a 97, and Durant’s joined on 96 by a raft of world-class talents, including LeBron James, Steph Curry, Nikola Jokic, and Joel Embiid. While Luka Doncic managed a 95.

Durant took to Twitter to state simply;

“This has become laughable,”

Clearly, no player scored a 99, or of course, a 100, so it’s not entirely clear if Durant is upset with his score or the fact that any player would get more than his rating.

In the history of the video game series, only five players have ever scored a 99, and that honor belongs to LeBron James, Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, and Kevin Garnett, while Shaquille O’Neal is the only player ever to score a maximum of 100.
