Some Of The Coolest Places To Check Out When You’re In Cleveland

by Staff

Located in the state of Ohio, Cleveland is a major metropolis. Even if you only have a few days in town, you’ll want to see as much as possible.

There are so many things to see and do in the state’s second-largest city that it has been elevated to the status of one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations.

It can be difficult to decide which ones to visit if you’ve never been before.

To that end, a list of the best places to visit in Cleveland has been put together for your convenience.

The Largest Rubber Stamp in the World

With a length of 49 feet, this rubber stamp has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest stamp in existence. As a nod to Cleveland’s Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument, which stands directly across the street, the stamp features “Free” across its bottom in large red letters.

Alton Whitehouse, CEO of Standard Oil of Ohio, ordered the rubber stamp in 1985.

Wife and husband sculpting duo Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen designed the massive artwork to brighten up the 659-foot Sohio Building’s greyscale exterior. And, in 1991, this stamp was transported from an Indiana storage facility and installed in downtown Cleveland, Ohio.

It took that long because British Petroleum’s CEO Robert Horton didn’t like it.

But, now, it stands in Willard Park for all to see.

USS Cod Submarine Memorial

The USS Cod Submarine Memorial is right next to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, another cool Cleveland attraction.

Commander James Dempsey commissioned this memorial in 1943, making it a National Landmark Memorial. As a tribute to World War II, this submarine has been preserved in its original form since it was first built in Cleveland, Ohio.

A remarkable feat was accomplished by the people manning this submarine in 1945, when it performed the first ever international rescue from one submarine to another.

It is possible to climb onto the memorial through the actual hatches and take a guided tour.

In addition to the Mark 14 torpedo powered by steam, there is also a search periscope and more.

Progressive Field

If you’re a baseball lover, do check out Progressive Field, one of the city’s most popular attractions.

The Cleveland Guardians play their home games at the spectacular ballpark in Cleveland, Ohio, which is one of the city’s more up-to-date and cutting-edge tourist spots.

Progressive Field offers reasonably priced baseball tickets, with some going for as little as $10.

What’s more, there’s a terrific seat for everyone in the stadium. And, in time to come, there will be plenty of punting options as Ohio sports betting has been legalized and operators are working on rolling out their services.

Greater Cleveland Aquarium

Definitely take a trip to the Greater Cleveland Aquarium if you’re ever in Cleveland.

It has only been open for business since 2012 but is a huge place, with 70,000 square feet of exhibit space and eight brand-new exhibit halls.

An acrylic shark tunnel in the 230,000-gallon tank is the aquarium’s most intriguing feature.

There is a slew of additional displays nearby that feature a wide variety of colorful and interesting fish.

If you’re looking for a fun and educational way to spend your day, go no further than this wonderful aquarium in Ohio.

It’s a fantastic destination for those seeking both knowledge and awe.

The Cleveland Arcade

The Cleveland Arcade is one of the city’s finest indoor malls, with the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan the inspiration for its construction in the 1880s.

One of the two nine-story towers is located beneath a five-story glass skylight that stretches 300 feet into the sky.

The Cleveland Arcade, now an office and retail complex, was one of the country’s first to open.

A glance inside and you’d never guess you’re at a retail mall in Ohio; the decor is so ornate and lavish, you’d think you were in Europe.

The Hyatt Regency hotel, which occupies the building’s upper floors, is an option if you’re keen on lodging.

You can also just take a look around the restaurants and shops on the ground and first floors.

The Euclid Arcade and the Colonial Arcade are just across the street if you’re looking for more of the same.

The Cleveland Museum Of Natural History

This spot is in downtown Cleveland and is located in the similarly well-known University Circle, which is filled with plenty of interesting places to explore.

Paleontology and botany are just a few of the areas covered by the more than 4 million objects on exhibit.

You can see a beloved Alaskan sled dog named Balto, see Ohio’s first planetarium, and even feel an earthquake firsthand. You can even uncover additional fascinating spots within the same property – all right here in Ohio.

This fairly large area has plenty to offer in terms of things to see and do.
