Spend a Culture-Filled Weekend in Philadelphia

by Staff

Holidaying at home, that is, heading off on vacation without leaving your home country, is becoming ever more popular. People are concerned about the implications of air travel on the planet, not to mention their wallet, so are choosing to vacation much more locally instead. For those of us in America, we’re spoiled for choice when it comes to destinations to visit in our own country. With such a vast area of land to cover, we could spend the rest of our lives holidaying exclusively in America and still not see everything. To get the sightseeing started though, let’s kick things off in Philadelphia as it’s less than 50 miles from the border of New Jersey. We know, we’ve got some great holiday destinations in our own state too, but trust us on this one.

First A Spot of Sightseeing

Familiarizing yourself with your surroundings ought to be the first step to any vacation and in Philadelphia, there’s a whole lot to see. To begin with, we’re going to head to one of the most important monuments n the history of America, the Liberty Bell. This Bell is situated in front of the stunning Independence Hall and is totally free to visit as long as you book a slot. The bell itself is beautiful, a great photo opportunity and a reminder of how lucky we are to live in a free country.

After you’ve taken a snap with the Liberty Bell, it’s on to an icon of a different kind. Almost everyone in the country has seen at least one of the Rocky films and the scene of him running up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art is forever etched into every cinema-lovers head. If you want to recreate the moment yourself then you can join plenty of tourists scaling the 72 stairs, otherwise, take a snap of yourself with the bronze statue at the bottom that was built to celebrate Rocky III.

Head Home to Valley Forge

There are lots of lovely hotels to stay at in Philadelphia, but for this trip, we’ve chosen the Valley Forge Resort. This resort stands out from the rest for the sheer amount of entertainment options available to guests. There’s an enormous casino; we’re talking 40000 square feet of it, equipped with all of the games a keen player could wish for. Head down and have a few rounds of roulette, or if you’re a little too tired after a full day of sightseeing to enjoy the casino at the Valley Forge Resort then you don’t need to worry about missing out on the fun entirely. You can head upstairs to your room, kick back in your pajamas and play on some of the best Poker Sites in Pennsylvania using the complimentary Wi-Fi. The hotel is totally happy for you to amuse yourself any way you want, whether that’s in their own casino, or an online one. Of course, they’re happy for you just to get a good night’s sleep too if that’s what you need the most!

Brunch Has Got To Be A Cheesesteak

It wouldn’t be a true Philadelphia weekend without treating yourself to a Philly cheesesteak. This food is famous the world over and Philadelphia is the place to get the best one. Pat’s King of Steaks is one of the most treasured spots for this delicious steak sandwich. Have your order prepared as it gets incredibly busy here and remember, with or without refers to onions and Whiz is indeed a kind of cheese. Provolone is also an option at Pat’s and makes a great melty topping for a totally indulgent sandwich.
