When you think about it most people work about 40 years and live for another 20+ years in their lives after work these days.
That’s 60+ years! Wouldn’t it be a good idea to develop a plan for how you are going to survive and thrive for all that time, and then be able to live comfortably in your life after work?
It’s a fact: most senior citizens and others are struggling financially because they did not plan well for this eventual critical time in their lives. How is that possible when your normal life expectancy is well known and considering the economics of the times and the foreseeable future?
Most likely, because planning doesn’t seem to come naturally for most people. There’s an old saying: “nobody plans to fail…they just fail to plan.”
From childhood there is an ingrained dependency on others – Mom and Dad through early maturity and the Company once you get a job. This inherent dependency creates a feeling in many people that somehow somebody else will perpetually take care of them throughout their lives.
Pretty naïve, when technology/AI is automating traditional jobs out of existence and in the process changing the nature of work dramatically. Add to this a continuing constriction of the global economy and dwindling natural resources increasing the cost of living, you have a whole new future life dynamic.
It’s more important now than ever to start planning seriously for how you are going to survive, thrive, and live comfortably in the new world of work.
That means you have to evaluate – where you are now in your natural life cycle, where do you want to be and by when, and then most importantly – how are you going to get there quarter-by-quarter and year-by-year to be able to sustain your ability to survive, thrive, and live comfortably for the rest of your life.
There’s an old tenet of life – “If it’s to be, it’s up to me.”
