Cigarro Bar and Lounge arrives in Hackensack as one of the Garden State’s rarest breeds—a place where a well-crafted cocktail and a premium cigar share the same table.

New Jersey has no shortage of cigar shops, but a true lounge—one where you can sink into a proper chair, order a handcrafted cocktail, and light up a Davidoff without someone asking you to step outside—remains a genuinely rare find. Cigarro Bar and Lounge in Hackensack is one of only a handful of places in the state where a premium cocktail, outstanding food, and a lit cigar coexist at the same table. That alone makes it worth knowing about.

The interior makes a strong first impression. The space is polished, warmly lit, and clearly designed with intention—rich materials, thoughtful layout, the kind of room that signals you’ve arrived somewhere that takes itself seriously. One caveat: don’t let the photos online set your expectations for scale. In person, Cigarro runs smaller than its digital presence suggests. It’s intimate, which isn’t a flaw so much as a fact worth knowing before you arrive unannounced with a party of eight.

The cigar menu leans unabashedly premium. On this visit, two Davidoffs made it to the table—a selection you don’t encounter at most lounges in the tri-state area—and they delivered on every expectation the label carries. The draw, the burn, the complexity of flavor: all exceptional. The price reflects the pedigree. Sticks in the $40-70 range are the norm here, so come prepared. This isn’t the spot to casually burn through a budget bundle. Instead, it’s the place to splurge on that cigar you’ve always wanted to try.

The drinks program holds its own. Cocktails are executed with care, clocking in at $15-22, and the bar understands its role as a complement to the smoking experience rather than an afterthought. This means stiff Old Fashioneds, Estrella beer imported from Spain, and banana-spiked rum creations, complete with a lit cigarillo as garnish. The staff is knowledgeable without being overbearing—attentive without hovering.

The crowd and atmosphere lend themselves naturally to business conversations—the kind that benefit from an unhurried setting and a cigar in hand. That said, Cigarro makes an equally compelling case for date night. Low lighting, quality product, and a room that demands you slow down has a way of elevating any occasion.

The Bottom Line

Cigarro isn’t trying to be everything to everyone—it’s aiming for a specific, discerning guest, and it largely delivers. The cigar selection is among the best in the state, the service is sharp, and the cocktails are worthy companions. The space is cozier than advertised, and it costs what it costs.

For a full-experience evening in Bergen County—one where the conversation lingers as long as the smoke—there are very few places in New Jersey doing what Cigarro does.
