Steve’s Burgers, a no-frills joint off Route 46 in North Jersey, has landed a spot on USA Today’s 2025 Restaurants of the Year list—and rightfully so. The restaurant earned a place among the top 44 in America, and after trying their signature burger ourselves, we can confirm the hype is real.
The 15-year-old spot isn’t flashy, but it has built a loyal following. Steady crowds flock for its towering burgers and hand-cut fries. Owner Steve Chrisomalis, who comes from a long line of restaurateurs, honed his craft at Johnson & Wales before fully committing to burgers. His approach is simple: quality ingredients, big flavors, and no unnecessary fuss. This strategy has worked—Steve’s Burgers has become a staple in a region where burger loyalty is hard to come by.
Menu Highlights at Steve’s Burgers
The menu standout is the signature Steve’s Burger, piled high with American cheese, smoked bacon, secret sauce, and a beer-battered onion ring. They also serve the classic Jersey favorite, the YDKJ Burger, loaded with Taylor Ham. For those who like their burgers extra messy, the American Burger comes topped with a runny fried egg. In addition, they offer a Burger of the Month, which adds even more excitement to the menu. But Steve’s doesn’t just serve burgers—hot dogs and chicken also make their way onto the menu. Many claim Steve’s cheesesteak is the best in the state, and some even say it rivals the best in Philly. Steve’s also makes their own sodas, and they’re great!
Despite its contemporary creations, Steve’s has an old-school feel that makes it seem like it’s been around forever. The cash-only policy and roadside shack aesthetic add to the charm, giving customers an experience that feels like a step back in time.
We visited Steve’s Burgers ourselves and experienced everything firsthand—freshly made burgers, crispy fries, and that signature no-frills appeal. We like it so much, we named it one of the best burgers in North Jersey.
