NJ Restaurant Named One of 50 Best in US By New York Times

Sweet Amalia Market & Kitchen, a roadside market in South Jersey, has been named one of the best restaurants in America for 2024 by the New York Times. It is the only eatery in New Jersey to be included in the prestigious list.

The list, compiled by New York Times editors and reporters, features 50 restaurants from across the country. This year, 32 new establishments were added, alongside some long-standing favorites.

Sweet Amalia, located along U.S. Route 40, offers a mix of farm stand goods and a raw bar, featuring fresh oysters. The restaurant’s menu, crafted by Chef Melissa McGrath, changes weekly based on seasonal availability. Popular dishes include fried oysters, BLT sandwiches with heirloom tomatoes, and eggplant sandwiches.

Opened in 2021, Sweet Amalia offers outdoor seating at picnic tables and does not take reservations. It is open from Thursday to Monday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
