Did someone say free pancakes? Mark your calendars—IHOP is serving up complimentary short stacks to celebrate National Pancake Day on March 4. Guests can claim a free stack of buttermilk pancakes at participating U.S. locations from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. No purchase is necessary, and donations are not required. The offer is dine-in only, with a limit of one per guest—so no sneaky second rounds.

For the past 18 years, National Pancake Day has been a tradition, and honestly, people will do anything for free pancakes. Back in high school, we’d come up with the most ridiculous excuses just to leave early and hit IHOP. Some of us didn’t even bother with the excuses—we just left. Looking back, it’s hilarious how serious we were about getting those free pancakes. Every time I looked around the place, there was a student from our school sitting at nearly every table! It felt like a high school reunion.

This year, IHOP is going bigger than ever. On March 1, the chain will attempt to break a Guinness World Record at Santa Monica Pier by serving 20,000 pancakes in eight hours. For every pancake flipped, IHOP will donate $1 to Feeding America, supporting the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. If you feel like taking a trip to California, that sounds like a blast.

New Jersey diners who can’t make the trip can still contribute by donating $1 to $3 at participating locations from March 1-31. National Pancake Day has become a fan-favorite tradition, and this year, IHOP is stacking up the excitement higher than ever.
