Bringing Pole Dancing to the Jersey Shore

Partying with the Creatures of Chrome

by Mike Ham

This episode was an experience unlike any other. We ventured into uncharted territory with our guests, Kim Petillo and Taylor Franklin, founders of Creatures of Chrome. The episode was a whirlwind of energy, creativity, and passion, centered around the fascinating world of pole dancing.

From the moment we kicked off the episode, the excitement was palpable. Kim and Taylor’s enthusiasm for their craft was infectious. They shared their journey from meeting at a pole dancing class in the summer of 2020 to creating a thriving performance company and opening their own studio, Badabling Fitness. Their story is one of friendship, perseverance, and a shared love for performance art.

One of the highlights of the episode was hearing about their first performance at House of Independents and how it led to monthly shows at Salty’s. The way they described the growth of their shows, from a modest 40 attendees to a packed house of over 100, was truly inspiring. It was clear that their dedication and hard work had paid off, creating a vibrant community of performers and fans alike.

Kim and Taylor also delved into the physical and emotional aspects of pole dancing. Taylor’s background in martial arts and burlesque, combined with Kim’s experience as a former stripper, brought unique perspectives to their performances. They spoke about the total body awareness required for pole dancing and the sense of self-expression it provides. It was fascinating to hear how they both overcame social anxiety through their art, transforming into confident performers on stage.

The episode also touched on the themes of their shows, which are often music-based. From tributes to female-fronted bands to New Jersey’s own musical legends, each show is a carefully curated experience. The Rock and Chrome Hall of Fame theme for the night of our recording was particularly special, featuring top performers from the past year.

As we wrapped up the first segment, it was clear that Kim and Taylor’s passion for pole dancing and performance art was the driving force behind their success. Their ability to create a welcoming and inclusive community, where performers of all backgrounds can shine, is truly commendable.

Recording this episode at Salty’s Beach Bar, with the anticipation of the night’s performance hanging in the air, was an unforgettable experience. Kim and Taylor’s journey is a testament to the power of creativity, determination, and the importance of creating opportunities for oneself and others. If you haven’t yet, I highly recommend checking out a Creatures of Chrome show – it’s an experience you won’t want to miss.
