Everything You Need to Know About Emma’s Jersey City Opening
While the focus has largely been on restaurant closures, we’re excited to report that a new Journal Square spot is about to open its doors for the very first time. (Albeit for delivery). A sister eatery to Latham House—Emma’s Jersey City opening this Friday comes at a time when locals least expected it. In an Instagram post earlier this week, the restaurant announced it was finally “ready to start serving you the biscuits you deserve.”
The much-anticipated opening comes after the restaurant made a statement on March 16th via social media that they would unfortunately have to postpone the original date. “Although we are sad to postpone, we think community safety and health is ALWAYS the most important part of being a local business. We support the mayor’s decision wholeheartedly and will do what we can to support our local community. Us at Emma’s hope that you stay home, wash y’er hands, and treat everybody with kindness through this difficult time.”
So what, or should I say who, is Emma? She’s the daughter of Latham House owners Kris Yettra and Dan Latham, and they describe the restaurant on their website as “a little more casual and a little more spunky (just like her!). It features local food grown by Emma and her co-workers at City Green and family recipes to make you feel at home.”
Emma’s will be occupying the space that residents might remember as P.J. Ryan’s (4 Path Plaza), and as of May 22, they’ll be doing a soft opening or “dress rehearsal” of their all-day menu—which right now includes starters, salads, sandwiches, mains, sides and desserts. Think naughty nachos, Chinese chicken salad, thick-cut grilled cheese, creamy chicken and biscuit pot pie and “kooky” monster ice cream sandwich.
“As we start this journey off slowly; we want to get things just right the first time. Be gentle, please, as we navigate our new endeavor. We can’t wait to get to know you and thank you for dining with us. With gratitude, Kris, Dan, Emma & our Emma’s family.”
