Anyone on the market has a mental list of the top traits they look for in a potential mate, but what about the automatic deal breakers? Here’s a list of first date pet peeves everyone can relate to:
Cell phone addiction. Someone who cannot disconnect from their smartphone for a couple hours won’t be getting a post-date call from me. If your date’s primary interest is checking in on Facebook or browsing through The Chive’s daily photos, chances are you’ll be equivalent to a fly on the wall a few months down the line.
Tardiness. Arriving late for a first date immediately portrays a bad impression. Make the person you’re going out with feel important by properly calculating how much time you need to get ready and be there by 7 p.m.
Lack of manners. If you get stuck on a date with someone who is rude to strangers, you  automatically get portrayed as a jerk by association. Be prepared for a night of awkward fidgeting and glares.
Instagramming your meal. Sorry, but there is no need to whip your phone out, turn the flash on and snap a photo of your spaghetti to share with the world, even if you get 50 likes.
Calling out minor flaws. Whether it is a nervous habit or you’re just overly blunt, it’s never a good idea to call someone out on minor flaws, such as an unusual laugh. It’ll make that person self conscious and not comfortable enough to open up to you.
Lack of pre-planning. Show that you put some forethought into the date as opposed to just winging it and hitting up the local Applebees.
One-sided conversation. Don’t strictly talk all about yourself. You may be really awesome, but let the other person realize that for himself/herself. Leave some things to be desired.
Too much info too soon. A first date is not a therapy session. Just because someone agreed to spend a few hours with you doesn’t mean you can spill your guts to them.
On the other hand, if your date laughs at your silly jokes and gives you an extra long hug goodbye, keep ‘em interested and hope you never have to endure any more first date pet peeves.
