Hamilton Park Farmers Market Opens In Jersey City

Last Wednesday regional vendors and residents flocked to Historic Downtown Jersey City to once again celebrate the opening of the Hamilton Park Farmers Market.

Though there are numerous farmers markets in Jersey City, the Hamilton Park Farmers Market is one of the only ones to open so early in the season. The market is free to the public every Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Any kind of craving you have can be satisfied at Hamilton Park Farmers Market, ranging from Hoboken Farms’ fresh mozzarella, to ice cream by Milk Sugar Love or Czech treats like huska and kolaches fresh producefrom Mabel & Betty’s.

In addition to the variety of vendors, the farmers market has kid-friendly events planned each week. Today’s lineup includes arts and crafts at the park gazebo and JC Families’ story time behind the HPNA tent. Girl Scouts will also be selling their infamous treats near the gazebo.

Along with promoting small local businesses, the point of the Hamilton Park Farmers Market is to bring a strong sense of community to Jersey City. Jan Nordland, head organizer of the market, was surprised with two awards opening day to honor her dedication and passion for running such a successful event. She received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Office of the Mayor and a Resolution from the Office of the City Clerk.

Nordland’s awards weren’t the only big announcement of the day. Mayor Fulop and council president Lavarro of the Hamilton Park Neighborhood Association took the opening day event as an opportunity to announce a new smoke-free policy throughout Jersey City parks. Now you no longer have to worry about polluted air or cigarette butts littering your nearest park.

Celebrate Hump Day at Hamilton Park Farmers Market. It is the ideal event to get out with friends or family, enjoy the sunshine, meet new people, buy fresh regional ingredients and receive info about the city.
