New Jersey will see a cooler and drier fall this year, setting the stage for a vibrant foliage season, according to the Old Farmers Almanac.

September temperatures will average 59 degrees, about two below normal, with roughly 3.5 inches of rain. October will drop to 46 degrees, three below normal, with only 2.5 inches of rainfall. Showers will appear occasionally, but most of the season will stay crisp and dry.

When Will Leaves Change in New Jersey?

Leaves in northern New Jersey will begin changing by mid September. Peak color should arrive statewide between mid and late October, fading by early November. Bright displays typically last about a week in any one location, though wind, rainfall and temperature swings can shorten the window. Deciduous trees such as oak, birch, beech and maple reveal their hidden pigments as chlorophyll fades. Cool nights and below average rainfall will help maintain a vivid and lasting show this year.
