When the holidays arrive, most families picture the same familiar scene: a classic green Christmas tree dressed in lights. But in Belvidere, New Jersey, one farm has turned that tradition into something far more vibrant. At Wyckoff’s Christmas Tree Farm, visitors can choose a holiday centerpiece in shades that look like they jumped straight out of a storybook—pink, turquoise, magenta, deep blue, purple, red, white, and even black.

Wyckoff’s is widely known as New Jersey’s original colored Christmas tree farm, and every year its most eye-catching trees sell out fast. The color-treated trees are real evergreens, grown on the farm and finished with a specialty, family-approved colorant. The result is a holiday display that feels playful, modern, and almost theatrical — and families come from all over the state to claim one before they’re gone. All colored trees are first-come, first-served, and quantities never last long.

A Farm With Nearly Two Centuries of New Jersey History

Wyckoff’s isn’t just a novelty stop; it’s one of the state’s oldest continuously operating family farms. The story began in 1839, when Simon Wyckoff purchased 172 acres of land in what is now White Township in Warren County. For generations, the property served as a fully self-sufficient farm, producing livestock, grain, and dairy products.

Everything changed in 1958, when John Wyckoff Sr., part of the farm’s fifth generation, began planting Christmas trees alongside his teenage son. Their first thousand Norway spruce seedlings marked the beginning of a new chapter. By the 1960s, the first eight trees were ready to harvest—and sold for just $5 each.

The Wyckoff family’s dedication to quality has earned them recognition across the state and the country. In 1985, the New Jersey Agricultural Society awarded John and Dorothy Wyckoff the Century Farm Award, honoring farms that have remained in the same family for at least a century.

Their achievements didn’t stop there. Wyckoff’s is a 12-time winner of the New Jersey Christmas Tree Growers Association’s Grand Champion Award, most recently in 2022. They’ve also earned national honors, twice receiving top recognition from the National Christmas Tree Association.

Those titles came with extraordinary opportunities:

  • In 2013, Wyckoff’s provided the Blue Room Christmas Tree to the White House.
  • In 2019, they earned the title of Reserve Grand Champion Grower, becoming the first New Jersey grower to win — and supplying a Christmas tree for the home of the Vice President at the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C.

Few farms in the country have a résumé quite like this one.

What Visitors Can Expect This Holiday Season

Wyckoff’s Christmas Tree Farm offers a mix of cut-your-own trees, pre-cut selections in a wide range of shapes and sizes, and of course, their famous colored trees. For 2025, the farm also introduced an exclusive patch of large specialty trees, including Fraser Fir and Canaan Fir varieties reaching up to 11 feet tall.

Inside the farm’s Christmas Barn, visitors will find:

  • Fresh wreaths
  • Grave blankets
  • Holiday greenery
  • Ornaments
  • Local seasonal décor

The farm is opening shortly for the 2025 season, welcoming families throughout the holidays.

  • Weekend hours: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Weekday hours: 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Peak traffic tends to fall on weekends between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., when the colored trees disappear the fastest.

A Holiday Tradition With a New Jersey Twist

Wyckoff’s has managed to blend nostalgia with creativity, offering families something that feels both rooted in tradition and refreshingly new. A walk through the rows of brightly colored trees feels a little like stepping into a holiday postcard that hasn’t been drawn yet—and that uniqueness is exactly what keeps generations of New Jersey families coming back.

For those searching for a tree with personality, or simply wanting to visit one of the state’s most historic farms, Wyckoff’s remains one of New Jersey’s most charming winter destinations.
