Seven hospitals in New Jersey just cleared one of the toughest benchmarks in American health care.
The Leapfrog Group, a national watchdog group, has named the seven NJ hospitals among the safest and highest-performing in the country, citing strong results in patient safety, infection control and quality of care.
The Leapfrog Group is an independent nonprofit that grades hospitals across the nation. To qualify, hospitals must earn top safety scores and outperform peers across dozens of measures tied to real patient outcomes. The group does not take into account reputation or advertising in their analysis.
Out of thousands of hospitals evaluated nationwide, only 156 earned the distinction this year. And seven are located right here in New Jersey.

7 New Jersey Hospitals Named Top in U.S.
The seven New Jersey hospitals to receive the prestigious honor are as follows:
- Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus
- Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in Englewood
- Hackensack Meridian Health Pascack Valley Medical Center in Westwood
- Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck
- Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch
- Shore Medical Center in Somers Point
- St. Luke’s Warren Campus in Phillipsburg
Four of the honorees are teaching hospitals, while three are general hospitals, reflecting strong performance across multiple health care settings.
Leapfrog’s evaluation focuses on a variety of outcomes, inlcuding medication safety, maternity care, infection prevention, surgical outcomes, nurse staffing, billing ethics and patient consent practices. Hospitals must earn top marks across each category to qualify for the list.
Participation in Leapfrog’s safety survey hit a record high in 2025. However, at the same time, standards tightened, raising the bar for recognition.
Leapfrog data shows that top-rated hospitals present fewer preventable errors and better overall outcomes than their peers. For New Jersey, the honors provide a clear signal that Garden State health care is in elite company and when patient safety is measured rigorously, hospitals rise to the top.
