Now that we know the Seahawks and the Broncos will be battling the weather and each other in the Super Bowl on Feb. 2, it’s time to start the pre-game parties. Here’s a few local pre-Super Bowl events to attend in the next week:
Football Fashion Week
We have the full lineup of what to expect all week for Football Fashion Week in our latest issue of The Digest which is hitting stores and mailboxes across Hudson County this week. But just in case you don’t have time to flip through the pages before this evening, the opening ceremony begins at 6 p.m. tonight at the Boys and Girls Club of Hudson County. There will be fun activities for the kids, and you can catch a glimpse of the designers who will show their work at upcoming events. Miss New Jersey USA and Miss New Jersey Teen USA 2014 will also be in attendance for meet and greets.
"A Wing and a Prayer" Chicken Wing Contest
Americans eat about 1.25 chicken wings on Super Bowl Sunday. So to get your taste buds prepared for the mass quantity of wings you’ll consume next weekend, stop by the “Wing and a Prayer” Cook-Off at the Hoboken Elks Lodge this Saturday at 6 p.m. For a $40 ticket, enjoy as many wings, sides, desserts and drinks as you want and see the winner for the “Best Chicken Wings In Hoboken” get crowned. Last year’s winner San Giuseppe will defend their title against fellow competitors 1 Republik, City Bistro, Green Rock, Hotel Victor, Johnny Pepperoni, Mikie Squared and Trinity. Entertainment will be provided by Cecilia Celeste.
Mutz Fest
We love mozzarella cheese so much, we devoted a whole blog post yesterday to Mutz Fest coming up Sunday at 2 p.m. But just in case you missed it, this event will also be held at the Elks Lodge and tickets are $20. Click here for the full scoop of the rest of the day’s festivities.
Super Bowl Kickoff Spectacular
On Monday, Jan. 27 put your scarf and gloves on and head over to Liberty State Park for a concert and fireworks show to initiate Super Bowl week. Daughtry, The Fray, and The Goo Goo Dolls will perform outdoors beginning at 7:30 p.m. and fireworks will launch around 9 p.m. All the free general admission tickets are sold out, but you can still purchase $40 tickets for the Warming Lodge. Comfort foods and beverages will be served inside the lodge, and you’ll get a VIP view of the concert with your ticket.
Hoboken Huddle
If you’re really amped about braving the cold next week, the Hoboken Huddle will also begin its week-long festivities at Pier A on Jan. 27.
