Prominent conservative commentator and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was killed by gunfire on Wednesday at an event held at Utah Valley University.
Videos posted online show Kirk giving a speech to a group of students at the Orem, Utah campus when a gun shot goes off that appears to hit him in the neck. In the video, his body recoils and he immediately falls to the ground. A chaotic scene ensues with students shown running from the scene.
Utah state law allows for concealed carry of firearms on campus.
Several lawmakers from both parties took to social media following the event. “Our prayers are with Charlie Kirk,” said Senator Ted Cruz, a Republican from Texas. California Governor Gavin Newsom called it “disgusting, vile, and reprehensible,” stating that we must reject political violence of all forms.
Simply abhorrent. There is no justification for political violence. We all must condemn this attack on Charlie Kirk.

It is the third politically motivated shooting in as many months. In June, Melissa Hortman, a lawmaker in Minnesota, was shot dead in her home along with her husband. The shooter also shot and wounded another lawmaker in the same night.
A person was taken into custody as a suspect and later released. The shot came from a building 200 yards away.
