Sean “Diddy” Combs’ defense attorneys have opted not to ask a judge to relocate him from the infamous MDC Brooklyn jail as he faces serious charges in his sex trafficking case. Just days after Manhattan Federal Court Judge Andrew Carter denied Combs’ request for release on a hefty $50 million bail, his legal representatives, Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos, informed the court on Monday that they would not be pursuing a transfer. “Following the September 18, 2024, court appearance, the court requested an update regarding any potential change in Mr. Combs’ detention location,” the defense team stated in their communication to the judge. “At this time, we have no request for the court to act. Thank you.”

In an interview with the Daily News, Agnifilo shared that Combs’ legal team is collaborating effectively with the staff at MDC, who he described as “responsive and helpful.”

Previously, Agnifilo had expressed interest in moving Combs to a facility in Essex County, New Jersey, which accommodates federal detainees. He characterized the New Jersey jail as “a little less difficult” than MDC, citing the latter’s history of severe issues that have yet to be resolved.

Agnifilo also indicated plans to appeal Judge Carter’s ruling regarding bail, which was issued last month.

MDC Brooklyn has drawn sharp criticism from judges, with descriptions of the facility ranging from “barbaric” to “dreadful.” Reports have detailed a series of violent incidents within the jail, including two stabbing fatalities this year, alongside claims of inadequate medical care, unsatisfactory living conditions, and inedible meals. Recently, a report revealed that staff at MDC overlooked an inmate’s 17 calls for medical assistance while a cancerous tumor developed in his leg. A nurse practitioner saw the inmate three times between January and August but failed to notice the worsening condition, as reported by defense attorneys. This incident marks the second time this year that jail medical personnel disregarded symptoms of an inmate developing cancer.

Combs faces serious federal accusations, including allegations of transporting sex workers across state lines and coercing women he dated into sexual encounters with male prostitutes during drug-fueled parties dubbed “Freak Offs.” Prosecutors allege that he would harass, physically abuse, and intimidate those who refused to participate, using incriminating recordings as leverage.
