A dump truck slammed into a house in Gloucester County Tuesday afternoon after the driver suffered a medical emergency, trapping two men and leveling part of the structure.
Authorities said the crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. on the 600 block of Stratford Avenue. The truck, loaded with sand, veered off Woodbury-Glassboro Road, struck a utility pole, and barreled through several front yards before crashing into the home.
The homeowner, who was inside at the time, was thrown through two walls and later rescued by first responders. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition, according to officials.
The truck’s driver, a longtime employee of Zeisloft Trucking, was trapped in the wreckage for more than an hour. The company’s owner said the driver suffered a seizure behind the wheel. Crews used heavy equipment to extract him from the cab. He was conscious and hospitalized for evaluation.
Emergency crews blocked off the surrounding area for several hours as debris was cleared and the structure was deemed unsafe. The home was eventually demolished.
Neighbors described hearing a thunderous crash before running to help. One man, Derek Keating, spoke to the homeowner through a hole in the collapsed floor and stayed with him until help arrived.
No other injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
