A serious crash involving two pickup trucks in Gloucester County on Sunday afternoon left one man critically injured and another facing a list of charges, including driving under the influence.
Authorities say the collision occurred just before 1 p.m. in Franklin Township, when a pickup driven by 46-year-old David Hewitt failed to stop at a posted sign on Little Mill Road and slammed into another truck at the Swedesboro Road intersection.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 34-year-old man from Clayton, had to be cut from the wreckage by emergency responders. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remained in critical but stable condition as of the latest update.
Hewitt, a Monroeville resident, now faces charges including assault by auto, DWI, driving with a suspended license, and several other traffic-related offenses. He is currently being held at the Salem County Correctional Facility while awaiting his initial court appearance.
No attorney for Hewitt was listed as of Monday.
