A winter storm brought heavy snow to South Jersey on Monday. The storm is forecasted to leave 8 to 12 inches in some areas, while North Jersey should see only 1 to 2 inches in select areas.
Cape May and Cumberland counties recorded the highest totals, while northern areas received less than an inch, according to the National Weather Service. The sharp difference was due to a cold, dry air mass limiting snowfall in the north.
Snow began early Monday morning, and will continue throughout the day. Wind gusts up to 25 mph created dangerous travel conditions.
NJ News: Murphy Declares State of Emergency
Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency in seven southern counties and delayed the opening of state offices, warning residents to stay off the roads.
“These hazardous conditions could make travel very difficult,” Murphy said.
Ocean County saw 3 to 6 inches of snow, while Monmouth County received 1 to 3 inches. Cleanup efforts are underway as a winter storm warning remains in effect for parts of South Jersey through early Tuesday.
