Authorities captured Marciano Sanchez, 40, a fugitive from the New Jersey Most Wanted List, on October 2, 2024. This led to ending his nearly 14-year run as a fugitive. He now faces charges of attempted murder linked to a shooting in Brick Township on November 29, 2010.

Sanchez, who lived in Queens, New York, fell into the hands of the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit and the U.S. Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force. Consequently, he now sits in Riker’s Island Correctional Facility, awaiting extradition to Ocean County.

On the day of the shooting, officers responded to the Community First Aid Building on Mantoloking Road. There they found a male victim with a gunshot wound to the face. Emergency responders transported the victim to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he received treatment and later left the hospital. Following an extensive investigation, local law enforcement identified Sanchez as the shooter.

Subsequently, authorities issued a warrant for Sanchez’s arrest on December 21, 2010, charging him with attempted murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. They entered his name into the National Crime Information Center database.

In a recent press release by the New Jersey State Police, Ocean County Prosecutor Billhimer stated, “After nearly 14 years, Marciano Sanchez has, at long last, been captured and will be returned to Ocean County to face justice. The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office is extremely grateful for the efforts of our local, state and federal law enforcement partners for their unwavering pursuit of this individual, and for all the work they do—day in and day out—to keep our communities safe.”

New Jersey State Police Superintendent Colonel Patrick J. Callahan emphasized the collaborative effort among law enforcement. “By removing this dangerous criminal from our streets, we send a clear and decisive message: no matter how long it takes, we will find and bring to justice those who threaten the safety of our communities,” he said.

U.S. Marshal Juan Mattos Jr. also commended the task force’s dedication, stating, “Today, justice prevails. The arrest of Marciano Sanchez is a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement.”

Sanchez faces serious charges and is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
