The City of Vineland is putting the “garden” back in “Garden State” with its first annual Green Fair.  Scheduled June 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Vineland High School South Campus, this outdoor event offers fun and educational activities for the entire family!  Here is what you need to know if you plan on attending the Green Fair.

What Is the Green Fair?

In 2017, the City of Vineland became one of the first cities in Cumberland County to obtain the Sustainable Jersey Certification. As a requirement for their certification, the city is hosting the Green Fair to educate the community on sustainable living and promote a more environmentally friendly lifestyle.

Green Fair Food and Music

The community’s favorite eateries will be providing food and beverages for fairgoers at this Vineland event.  Among the most popular is Outlaw’s Burger Bar & Creamery; their pop-up tent will be offering some savory options with their famous smoked and classic burgers.  House of Cupcakes will also serve their award-winning, homemade desserts, and, in case it’s a hot June day, Kona Ice will be ready with a refreshing treat.   A local Vineland folk band, Trainwreck, will provide live entertainment for attendees as they make their way through the plethora of activities.

Green Fair Vendors and Exhibits

Over 25 vendors will be attending to help the city promote its goals of a more sustainable lifestyle.  Personal Trainer, Tim Grussenmeyer with Grussenmuscle, will be offering free demonstrations on how to stay active.  Herbal remedies will also be for sale at The Great Full Garden booth as well as an interactive activity for children.

Plant lovers can take a moment to visit the Rutgers Master Gardeners exhibit to learn about proper plant maintenance. To ensure those plants will survive, the US Department of Agriculture’s booth is offering free soil tests.  Simply provide a sample of your residential or farming soil, and they’ll do the rest.

Families struggling with healthy eating are welcome to visit the US Department of Health booth, where a representative will provide weekly meal plans.  Locally grown produce will be for sale at the fair courtesy of a farmer’s market to supplement that healthy diet.

There will be plenty of fun activities for children as well, including a tour of the Vineland High School’s beautiful butterfly garden and an obstacle course provided by the fire department to teach fire safety.

Lastly, the most exciting vendor attending the fair has to be the Delaware Valley Tesla Owners Club.  If you’ve ever wondered about the efficiency of electric vehicles, this is your chance to learn!  An impressive display of Tesla cars will be available for fairgoers to look at, touch and even try out.
