Hoboken’s PATH station will close late Thursday night for emergency track repairs, the Port Authority said. The shutdown begins at 11:59 p.m. August 28 and ends at 5 a.m. September 2.
The closure targets an interlocking system that has suffered mechanical failures since its installation earlier this year. According to the Port Authority, installing new parts will restore reliability and allow for more frequent peak-hour service.
Alternative Travel Options
PATH will provide free shuttle buses linking Hoboken, Newport and Exchange Place. It’s important to remember that it’s only the Hoboken PATH station that will be closed.
Riders can also take advantage of $3 discounted New York Waterway ferry tickets from Hoboken to Manhattan terminals at Brookfield Place and West 39th Street. Extra ferry trips will run during peak hours Friday and throughout the weekend.
NJ Transit will cross-honor PATH fares on select rail and bus routes, including trips from Hoboken to Midtown. The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will also accept PATH riders between Hoboken, Newport and Exchange Place, where connections to 33rd Street and the World Trade Center are available.
Service Adjustments
On Labor Day, PATH trains will operate on a Saturday schedule. The 9th Street and 23rd Street stations, which usually close overnight, will remain open through the weekend.
The Port Authority said the repairs are necessary to fix the system failures and reduce future service disruptions.
