An infant was found deceased Tuesday inside a minivan in Lakewood, NJ. The van was discovered on Fifth Street between Monmouth and Princeton avenues, authorities said.
Emergency responders attempted to revive the child but were unsuccessful, according to Mayor Raymond Coles. Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer confirmed the infant was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police closed the area for several hours as investigators examined the vehicle, a Toyota Sienna, which was later towed away from the scene. Officers from the Lakewood Police Department and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office remained on-site into the evening.
Authorities have not released details on how or when the child was discovered. Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith of the Lakewood Police directed all inquiries to the prosecutor’s office, which is expected to release more information Wednesday.
