The Jets made a surprising move on Tuesday by parting ways with head coach Robert Saleh after a 2-3 start to the season, according to a source.
Saleh had a 20-36 record during his tenure, now in its fourth season. The Jets had high hopes for 2024, particularly with quarterback Aaron Rodgers returning from a season-ending injury last year.
However, the team has struggled in the early part of the season, losing their last two games. The breaking point came after a 23-17 defeat to the Vikings in London on Sunday, where Rodgers threw three interceptions, and the offense appeared disjointed.
Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich will step in as interim head coach, per a source.
Saleh had one year left on the contract he signed in 2021. This marks the first time owner Woody Johnson has fired a coach midseason and the Jets’ first in-season coaching change since 1976, when Lou Holtz resigned.
