Crews from the New Jersey Forest Fire Service contained 50% of a wildfire near Pine Park and Lakewood Country Club on Tuesday morning. The fire scorched 35 acres as firefighters worked through the night to halt its spread.
Firefighters closed Clearstream Road between Brewers Bridge Road and Hope Chapel Road to focus suppression efforts. Officials urged residents and motorists to stay clear of the area to ensure emergency crews can access the scene without obstruction.
The wildfire no longer threatens any structures. Earlier, firefighters had worked to protect six buildings in the vicinity, but no evacuations have occurred.
Dry conditions across New Jersey continue to heighten wildfire risks. The state remains under a drought warning and Stage 3 fire restrictions. Forest Fire Service officials reported over 500 wildfires since October, marking a 1,300% spike compared to the same period last year.
Officials called on residents to reduce water use and avoid lighting outdoor fires, including charcoal and wood, to lower the risk of new blazes.
Fire crews continue efforts to contain the fire and investigate its origin.
