Gym, tan, legislation.
Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino of reality TV fame is floating a run for New Jersey governor—and he even has a platform. Sort of.
The Jersey Shore star told News 12 New Jersey at an event last week that he plans to focus on expanding his Archangel Centers addiction recovery network for the next three to five years before making any political moves. “After that, you know, I’ll introduce everybody to Governor Situation,” he said, according to Parade.
When pressed on his party affiliation, Sorrentino kept his cards close: “I can’t announce it yet, but I think the residents of New Jersey would like no property tax.” A likely stance from a man who served eight months in federal prison in 2019 for tax evasion.
The 43-year-old has genuinely turned his life around since shooting the original six seasons of MTV’s Jersey Shore. He’s been sober for over a decade, is married with three kids, and opened an Archangel Center in Tinton Falls last year with plans to expand nationwide. The work he’s put into recovery is real, and he’s built the support system to prove it.
He’d hardly be the first reality television star to make a run for office. Spencer Pratt (The Hills) is running for mayor of Los Angeles. Sean Duffy (Real World) is currently U.S. Secretary of Transportation. And the current president is Donald J. Trump, who spent years firing people on The Apprentice—just in case you forgot.
We’re less than a year into Mikie Sherrill’s first term, so Governor Situation isn’t happening anytime soon. But by 2029, anything could happen. Let’s just hope when the debates come that he takes a calmer approach than Season 4 in Italy.
