Local parks across 27 Monmouth County municipalities will see major upgrades as part of the community-funding initiative, the 2025 Municipal Open Space Grant. Residents in these towns and cities will benefit from $6 million in grants distributed through the program.

According to the Asbury Park Press, the Municipal Open Space Grant, conducted annually, aims to help municipalities fund local projects, park renovations and development, recreational improvements and historic preservation efforts.

Monmouth County Board of Commissioners Director Thomas A. Arnone stated that the program shows a direct line of work between the county and its 53 municipalities to ensure local parks are constructed and maintained to renovation standards.

The grant funding covers 27 Monmouth County towns and cities, including recreational improvements such as $180,908 for Terhune Park in Matawan, $75,981 for the Brielle Eco Path and $72,363 for Valenzano Park in West Long Branch.

The largest grants were awarded to Fair Haven, Hazlet, Long Branch, Middletown, Neptune City, Red Bank, Rumson and Wall, each receiving $361,817 for various projects.

More information about renovations and construction can be found on the Monmouth County Park System’s website.
