The Montclair Pride Festival—one of the biggest in New Jersey—has been postponed from June 13 to August 1 after organizers at Out Montclair announced a $55,000 funding shortfall driven by rising production costs and a drop in corporate sponsorship.

The free, annual celebration has drawn tens of thousands of attendees since launching five years ago—including more than 30,000 in 2024 and nearly 19,000 in 2025 despite rain, according to Out In Jersey. Even with the new date, the 2026 iteration still faces cancellation if the funding gap isn’t closed.

Out Montclair has launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover mandatory public safety expenses, including police, firefighters, and EMS—costs the organization is required to cover in order to hold the event.

The sponsorship decline reflects a broader national trend. Audi—the festival’s longtime presenting sponsor—will not return in 2026. Gilead, Ikea, and Kings Market also did not renew. GoFundMe Communications Manager Ese Esan attributed the pullback to DEI rollbacks pushing corporations away from Pride sponsorships, telling Out In Jersey that the situation “reflects a national trend.”

The June 13 date created additional complications that go beyond social issues—the planned date coincided with the opening day of the FIFA World Cup in New Jersey, putting pressure on public safety resources across the region and requiring earlier funding commitments than in previous years.

To offset costs, Out Montclair relocated the festival to Lackawanna Station and secured MM by Morimoto as the Beacon Sponsor and host of the VIP Hospitality Tent. However, it wasn’t enough.

“While postponing the festival was a difficult decision, we believe it is the responsible one,” Out Montclair President and Co-Founder Reubena Spence said in a statement. Donations supporting the rescheduled event can be made here.
