Boat Explosion at New Jersey Marina Injures Two

by Staff

OLD BRIDGE, N.J. – Two men were injured in a boat explosion at Raritan Marina in Old Bridge on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 3:20 p.m. when the boat, docked at the marina on Route 35, exploded, launching a 57-year-old man into the water. He was pulled out by bystanders and airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with burns to his face and legs.

A 47-year-old man from South Amboy sustained injuries from glass fragments to his stomach and arms. He was taken to Bayshore Medical Center for treatment.

The explosion caused significant damage to the boat, which eventually sank under the weight of the water used to extinguish the flames. Local fire departments, with assistance from FDNY marine units, responded to the scene to battle the blaze and contain the damage.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion, though they have indicated it does not appear to be suspicious.

The marina remains closed while the investigation continues.
