Update: Since publishing, service has resumed on the suspended NJ Transit lines.

Commuters are facing a brutal return to the office due to significant transportation delays. New Jersey Transit is experiencing major disruptions Monday as overhead wire problems near Newark have forced the suspension of multiple lines.

As of now, service is suspended on the Northeast Corridor Line between Trenton and New York Penn Station, and on the North Jersey Coast Line between Woodbridge and New York Penn Station, according to NJ Transit website. The Raritan Valley Line will operate only between Newark Penn Station and its normal endpoints. Trains will originate and terminate at Newark.

The disruption began after wire issues disabled a train on Monday morning. NJ Transit deployed a rescue train and police teams to assist stranded riders at Newark Liberty Airport Station.

To help commuters reach their destinations, NJ Transit tickets and passes are being accepted on PATH trains at Newark, Hoboken, and 33rd Street in Manhattan. Until full service resumes, riders should plan extra time for travel and consider alternative routes.

The agency has not yet said when normal service will return. Early reports of delays estimated 60 minutes before full suspensions were implemented.

This is the latest in a series of Monday morning disruptions that have frustrated NJ Transit riders, particularly on busy lines connecting New Jersey suburbs with New York City. Commuters are being advised to check NJ Transit updates regularly as the day carries on.
