A New Jersey Uber Eats driver had quite the unexpected surprise when a burrito order turned out to be something entirely different.
The driver, who had picked up the meal from a restaurant in Lindenwold and was en route to Glassboro, decided to stop in Washington Township after noticing a strong, unmistakable odor of marijuana coming from the package. Concerned, the driver contacted the authorities, according to a Nov. 24 Instagram post by the Washington Township Police.
When Officer Lou DeStefano arrived on the scene and unwrapped the foil-covered item, he didn’t find a delicious burrito filled with barbacoa or carnitas. Instead, he discovered a bag containing over an ounce of marijuana.
“This wasn’t your typical order,” police joked in their Instagram post. “The ‘burrito’ is now in evidence, and we’re unwrapping an investigation.” Alongside the cannabis, the delivery also included a bottle of water and a box of soup.
While recreational marijuana was legalized in New Jersey in 2021, residents are only allowed to purchase up to an ounce from licensed dispensaries. It remains unclear if this particular package was part of a transaction.
