A New Jersey school is adding a new degree program that blends two hot topics: business and artificial intelligence. Starting in the spring of 2026, the university will offer a Bachelor of Science in Business with AI, the first undergraduate program of its kind in the state.
At New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), the idea behind the new degree is simple—companies need people who understand how to use AI in real business situations. Students won’t just take classes in finance or marketing. They’ll also learn how to work with tools like machine learning, data analytics and natural language processing, and then see how those skills fit into decision-making at a company.
University officials said the program ties into NJIT’s broader plan to become a leader in artificial intelligence by 2030. The state is also investing in AI, including the creation of the NJ AI Hub, which is expected to bring researchers, startups, and industry leaders together under one roof.
What Students Can Expect
According to the university, students in the new program will split time between standard business courses and specialized AI courses. They’ll also have access to NJIT’s high-powered Wulver supercomputer, which is used for large-scale data projects. On top of that, internships and partnerships with New Jersey businesses will give students a chance to apply what they learn outside the classroom.
The degree is expected to be offered through NJIT’s Martin Tuchman School of Management, which is AACSB-accredited, a distinction held by only a small number of business schools around the world.
In their final year, students will complete an AI capstone project. They’ll work with real companies to develop solutions, guided by industry mentors and faculty. Hackathons, case competitions and networking events will also be part of the experience.
“Our goal is to produce graduates who can bridge the gap between technical teams and business strategy,” said Oya Tukel, Dean of the Martin Tuchman School of Management at NJIT. “By infusing AI across our business curriculum and providing extensive experiential learning opportunities, we’re creating a talent pipeline of AI-savvy business professionals. Graduates of this program will be uniquely prepared to lead in an era where AI is integrated into virtually every business function.”
Why It Matters for New Jersey
With AI becoming part of everyday business decisions, NJIT says this degree is aimed at keeping local graduates competitive in a fast-changing job market. The program also helps highlight New Jersey’s push to build an AI-driven economy, connecting higher education, industry, and government in one effort.
