Stanley recalls 2.6 million Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel travel mugs due to a potential burn hazard, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall affects mugs sold between June 2016 and December 2024 in 12 oz., 16 oz., and 20 oz. sizes, along with several colors including white, black, and green.
The lids of the affected mugs pose a burn hazard. Heat and torque can cause the lid’s threads to shrink, leading to detachment during use. This can spill hot liquid and cause burns. Stanley has reported 91 incidents worldwide of lids detaching, including 38 burns, with 11 of those requiring medical attention.
The mugs were sold at major retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Target, as well as online. Stanley urges all consumers who own the affected mugs to immediately stop using them. Consumers should contact Stanley to receive a free replacement lid, including free shipping.
Consumers can reach Stanley at 866-792-5445, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET. They can also visit here to submit a recall claim or for further information. The Stanley website also provides an option for consumers to submit their claims and get more details about the recall.
Stanley has advised customers to act promptly to ensure safety and secure their free replacement lid.
