President Trump appointed Alina Habba on Monday as interim US Attorney for the District of New Jersey, replacing John Giordano, who was sworn in earlier this month.

Giordano is set to be nominated as Ambassador to Namibia, Trump later announced on Truth Social.

Habba, previously Trump’s personal attorney and later a presidential counselor, has no prosecutorial experience. She ran a small law firm specializing in civil litigation before joining Trump’s legal team.

“Just like I did during my time as President Trump’s personal attorney, I will continue to fight for truth and justice,” Habba wrote on X.

Habba will oversee more than 150 attorneys in her new role. Speaking outside the White House, she vowed to tackle corruption but did not specify targets. When asked about her comments mentioning Sen. Cory Booker and Gov. Phil Murphy, she said they had “failed the state of New Jersey.”

Habba gained prominence representing Trump in several legal battles, including his New York civil fraud case, which resulted in a near $500-million fraud liability. Her firm has received millions in payments from Trump’s political action committees.

Trump praised Habba as a “tireless advocate for justice.”

It remains unclear if Trump will nominate her for the position permanently.
