A major stretch of the Ventnor City boardwalk has been completely rebuilt just in time for the summer season.

The first phase of a $7.1 million reconstruction project on the historic 1.7-mile Ventnor boardwalk is now complete, city officials announced Monday. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for Wednesday, April 29 at noon at Suffolk Avenue to mark the occasion.

Work began in November 2025 when the city closed the boardwalk between Surrey Avenue and the Fishing Pier access ramp, according to NJ.com. The first phase covered the stretch from Suffolk Avenue to Cambridge Avenue. It included full demolition and rebuilding of the boardwalk structure, pavilions, street-end ramps, railings, and improved lighting.

Phase 1 is done, but the full project still has a ways to go until it’s complete. Phase 2—covering Suffolk Avenue to Jackson Avenue—is scheduled to begin this fall after the busy season.

Funding for the project came through the New Jersey Boardwalk Preservation Fund, a state program designed to help maintain and restore the iconic boardwalks that scatter the Jersey Shore.

Why It Matters

The Ventnor boardwalk doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It’s an extension of the legendary Atlantic City Boardwalk, making it one of the most storied stretches of real estate not just at the Jersey Shore—but in the entire state.

For a beach community that depends on summer foot traffic, getting the boardwalk ready before Memorial Day weekend is a necessity.

The full reconstruction also signals a broader investment in the Ventnor waterfront that will carry into next year. For now, the boardwalk is fresh, and the Jersey Shore city is officially ready for Memorial Day.
