New Jersey’s favorite convenience store just got a makeover. The newest Wawa is sporting a next-gen look—and they’re giving away tons of goodies to celebrate.

The Pennsville Wawa opens Thursday at 245 S. Broadway, introducing a refreshed format that highlights the chain’s food and beverage lineup while offering a more spacious store with a fresh design.

The newest Wawa location features raised ceilings, large windows, expanded food displays and multiple digital menu boards for ordering. The exterior includes a cantilever canopy, V-shaped steel column inspired by flying geese, fuel service, free tire air stations, and an improved landscaping look.

Inside the store, customers will find an expanded made-to-order kitchen, plenty of baked goods, specialty drinks, surcharge-free ATMs, and mobile ordering options that include curbside pickup and delivery.

Opening day events begin on September 25 with a countdown to the 8 a.m. door opening, followed by free t-shirts for the first 100 customers, free hot coffeethrough September 28 and a hoagie-making contest between local police and fire departments. The ceremony concluded with a ribbon cutting and the debut of Wawa’s $6 Meal Deal, which includes a “Shorti” hoagie, wrap or chicken sandwich, chips and a fountain drink.

The company said the Pennsville store represents an evolving model that will become more visible as Wawa pursues nationwide growth. They plan to add 1,800 locations by 2030, including more than 70 this year. What was once a niche New Jersey-Pennsylvania staple could soon be a nationally-available chain.

Wawa: A Local Favorite

The first Wawa convenience store opened in Folsom, Pennsylvania, in 1964, combining readily available grocery staples with fresh food service. Over the decades, the chain became known for its hoagies, coffee and 24-hour service in the greater Philadelphia area.

Today, there are more than 1,100 Wawa stores across New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Washington, D.C. Wawa remains a staple today for those who grew up with them.
