An iconic piece of the Wildwood boardwalk has officially been retired.

For more than 25 years, the SkyCoaster at Morey’s Pier served not just as a thrill ride, but as a recognizable part of the Wildwood, New Jersey backdrop. You knew you were close to the boardwalk when you spotted the coaster rising in the distance. Now, it’s retired for good.

The Wildwood SkyCoaster was never an ordinary boardwalk attraction—the ride offered a mix of skydiving and hang-gliding that sent guests soaring more than 100 feet into the air, complete with ocean views and a healthy dose of adrenaline.

Morey’s Pier announced the retirement on social media:

“After over 25 years, the SkyCoaster is officially retiring,” they said. “Thank you to everyone who faced their fears and took the leap with us! As we say goodbye to this iconic ride, we’re already hard at work reimagining Adventure Pier so that there can be many more adventures to come in future years.”

From the sound of it, Morey’s Pier is already conceptualizing the SkyCoaster’s replacement. So as one long-running attraction shutters, the next signature piece of Morey’s Pier is (hopefully) waiting in the wings.

There are no further details yet on the specifics or timing of a SkyCoaster replacement.
